BIO

Yanting Zhou is a Chinese multidisciplinary artist currently based in the Netherlands, currently studying Fine Art (BA) at ArtEZ University of the Arts. Zhou’s practice centers on immersive, multisensory installations that interweave light, spatial dynamics, and bodily perception. By employing light as both material and metaphor, she delves into the intricate relationships between physical sensation, linguistic symbols, and social interactions.

Her work challenges the primacy of verbal language, constructing environments where meaning emerges through direct sensory experience rather than symbolic representation. Influenced by phenomenology and critical semiotics, Zhou investigates how bodies navigate spaces imbued with ambiguity and affect.

In 2024, she participated in an exhibition at C’est la vie Gallery, presenting an early iteration of her exploration into light and nonverbal communication structures. Driven by a desire to transcend established linguistic codes, Zhou believes that the body is not merely situated in space but actively generates alternative systems of understanding through sensory engagement.
